Chunk It Down

There was a video by Jordan Peterson that I remember watching… I’ll link it here when it find it again…

In that video Jordan Peterson essentially says you should create a schedule. One of the lines in the video really stuck with me. It went something like plan the next week and if you can’t plan that then plan the next day. If that’s too much then plan the next hour. If it’s too much then the next minute.

I find myself getting overwhelmed when I tell myself to do things. Sometimes it just feels like too much and I procrastinate and don’t do it at all.

I’ll end up going on Hacker News purely by habit when I feel overwhelmed. So much so that I’ve implemented a redirection in Chrome that whenever I go to that website I know I’m feeling overwhelmed so I show myself a typeform that I created instead.

Here’s a link to that typeform here

I know that going on Hacker News is an overwhelming trigger for me so I’ll ask myself a question on what’s making me feel overwhelmed. Next, I’ll ask myself how I can make progress on it in less than 2 minutes. I’ll even link out to my app protime as well…

I find that even doing that short exercise is enough to get me on track. It’s amazing what making consistent progress, even if it’s only for 2 minutes a day, can have…

Now I’m trying to get into the habit of whenever I feel lazy or overwhelmed then make that a trigger for myself where I ask how can I make progress on this thing in less than 10 minutes, or 5 minutes, or even 1 minute?

its definitely working on helping me make progress towards my business instead of cowering away in fear because I feel so overwhelmed with all the things I “should” be doing.

what about you? How do you combat procrastination? How do you get your own ass in gear and get to work?

Looking forward to hearing from you,

Rol Roiz
